Some experts argues that Bitcoin technology – the blockchain could be the future of border control.
Migrants from different nations leave their countries trying to create another happy future for their children and their families. Also these refugees lose their property, jobs, friends, because they have seen something incomprehensible and awful, but what is more imporetant is the fact that some of them lost their legal identity (ID).
Usualy, when citizens leave their motherland ther ID can be impounded and their bank accounts can be eliminated too. Without legal identity these people cease to exist, because if they lose an ID they, what is more important, lose their citizenship. More over, this losing generally causes the great difficulties with access to critical social and economic infrastructure and even with the international banking system.
So, as you understood, a lack of identyty creates a huge problems for people and countries who trying to help them in their sorrow. The situation with the Syrian crisis is aggravated by the fight against terrorism. Because it is very difficult to recognize mifrant’s and their intentions.
Using Bitcoin’s blockchain technology can realy solve the problem of losing ID. The blockchain looks like the huge ladger, wich can be used like sharing electronic document system. A blockchain technology used a distributed database. So, using this Bitcoin’s tehcnology and its data bank allows authorities of border states to verify identity on their copy of the ledger housing her ID. Moreover, as the blockchain technology is tamper-proof, it could contain much more information to present. Furthermore, because blockchain technology allows for anonymity as well as transparency, it gives a chance to how only those par of information which requires. Of course this Bitcoin’s technology will improve the access to the banking system too. Because the blockchain can manage digital assets of all kinds, supporting organizations could sent any amount of money and directly in the form of tokens or vouchers. Working without layers of intermediary, a larger percentage of the final value would find its way to the person.
Some have tried to introduce blockchain technology to solve the Syrian crisis. For example, Bitnation is using the Bitcoin blockchain to set up an Emergency ID for refugees. Members of family can verify each other fund a bitcoin Visa card. But it is not such convinient yet, because it need the shops near the migrants camps to accept bitcoin. Recently, NevTrace won a Spanish HackforGood competition for a migrant’s blockchain that would better catch migration patterns and improve assistance. So, analizing this eforts, it becomes clear that this is not an easy task, and it is incomprehensible whether it will bring the expected result or not.
Blockchain technology is not a master key for inhibiting money laundering and terrorism sponsoring. So if someone with a fake ID went to a bank that shared the blockchain ledger, that fake ID would spread through the system and banks must prevent this efforts which, presumably, can become easier to do with third-party verification or other security measures. The blockchain is a widely distributed and tamper-proof system, wich allows for verifiable, attributable and easily obtained records of individuals. The blockchain can hedge against political confusion of all kinds and build a new world in which migrants from different countries can support the power of proven identity.
